Emerald Swifts (Sceloporus Malachiticus)

Range/Habitat: Mexico to Panama. Mountain Forests.

 

Sexing: Male are much, much brighter than females.

 

Size: To 8 inches.

 

Husbandry: Emerald Swifts do best in a 20 gallon high or larger aquarium. They need perches and places to climb. A wide spectrum UVB bulb is necessary with basking sites in the 90’s. High humidity is necessary. 80% range. Feeds on insects and small pinkie mice on occasion. Make take some flowers and leaves. Best in groups with single males. Vitamin supplements helpful.

 

Breeding: Can be bred if kept in groups of 1 males and 2-3 females. They are live bearers or eggs hatch shortly after laying. 8-12 eggs. A reduction in photoperiod and temperatures is helpful.
